Source: Greater Portland Inc., Major Employers in Greater Portland. The list covers the whole metro, including Southwest Washington, and GPI notes its estimates may be incomplete.
Four of those seven are in health care. If you work in finance, HR, IT or operations, health care is a big door to knock on.
The giants aren’t the whole story, though. We’re a direct-hire recruiting firm rather than a Portland staffing agency, and most of our clients are growing companies where one great hire changes a lot.

Finding a Job in Portland
Unemployment in Portland is 5.8%, a little above the state rate, so good roles attract a lot of applicants. A few things help you stand out:
- Target the health systems. OHSU, Providence, Legacy and Kaiser all sit near the top of the regional list, and they hire far beyond clinical roles. Show how your finance, HR, IT or operations work fits a care setting.
- Tailor your resume to each role. In a market this size, a generic resume gets lost. Lead with results that match the job description.
- Research the organization before the interview. Know its mission, the role’s scope and what you want to ask. Our career advice library has more.
